Ellen G. White – A True Messenger of God

John 14:06 Jesus saith unto him [Thomas], I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.
Jesus also said:
Matthew 12:30 HE THAT IS NOT WITH ME IS AGAINST ME; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
Luke 11:23 HE THAT IS NOT WITH ME IS AGAINST ME: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
Ellen G. White was either a true “MESSENGER of GOD” or a false one working for Satan. There is no middle ground.
Some have stumbled over the fact that I said I did not claim to be a prophet and they have asked, Why is this? {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 3}
I have had no claims to make, only that I am instructed that I AM THE LORD’S MESSENGER; that he called me in my youth to be his messenger, to receive his word, and to give a clear and decided MESSAGE in the name of the LORD JESUS. {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 4}
Early in my youth I was asked several times, Are you a prophet? I have ever responded, I AM THE LORD’S MESSENGER. I know that many have called me a prophet, but I have made no claim to this title. MY SAVIOUR DECLARED ME TO BE HIS MESSENGER. “Your work,” he instructed me, “is to bear my word. Strange things will arise, and in your youth I set you apart to bear the message to the erring ones, to carry the word before unbelievers, and with pen and voice to reprove from the Word actions that are not right. Exhort from the Word. I will make my Word open to you. It shall not be as a strange language. In the true eloquence of simplicity, with voice and pen, the messages that I give shall be heard from one who has never learned in the schools. My Spirit and my power shall be with you. {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 5}
“Be not afraid of man, for my shield shall protect you. It is not you that speaketh: it is the Lord that giveth the messages of warning and reproof. Never deviate from the truth under any circumstances. Give the light I shall give you. The messages for these last days shall be written in books, and shall stand immortalised, to testify against those who have once rejoiced in the light, but who have been led to give it up because of the seductive influences of evil.” {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 6}
Why have I not claimed to be a prophet?–Because in these days many who boldly claim that they are prophets are a reproach to the cause of Christ; and because MY WORK INCLUDES MUCH MORE THAN THE WORD “PROPHET” SIGNIFIES. {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 7}
When this work was first given me, I begged the Lord to lay the burden on some one else. The work was so large and broad and deep that I feared I could not do it. But by his Holy Spirit the Lord has enabled me to perform the work which he gave me to do. {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 8}
God has made plain to me the various ways in which he would use me to carry forward a special work. Visions have been given me, with the promise, “If you deliver the messages faithfully and endure to the end, you shall eat of the fruit of the tree of life, and drink of the water of the river of life.” {The Review and Herald, July 26, 1906 paragraph 9}
Why have I not claimed to be a PROPHET? Early in my work I was asked several times, Are you a PROPHET? I have ever responded, I AM THE LORD’S MESSENGER. I knew many called me a PROPHET, but I made no such claim, because MY SAVIOUR DECLARED ME TO BE HIS MESSENGER. “Your work,” He instructed me, “is to bear My word. Strange things will arise, and in your youth I set you apart to bear My MESSAGE to the erring ones, to carry the WORD before unbelievers, and with pen and voice to reprove from the WORD actions that are not right. Exhort from the WORD. I will make My WORD open to you, as no strange language. In the true eloquence of simplicity, with voice and with pen, the MESSAGES shall be repeated from one who has never learned in the schools. MY SPIRIT and POWER shall be with you. Be not afraid of men in your youth; for My shield shall protect you. It is not you that speaketh; it is the Lord that giveth the MESSAGES of warning and reproof. Never deviate from the TRUTH under any circumstances. Give the light I shall give you. The MESSAGES for these last days shall be written in books and shall stand immortalised, unchangeable, eternal, to testify against those who have rejoiced in the light given, but who have since been affected by seducing spirits.” {Manuscript 63a-1906}
In contrast:
SATAN is today deceiving many as he attempted to deceive CHRIST, claiming that he is Heaven-sent and doing a good work for humanity. And the masses of the people are so blinded by sophistry that they cannot discern his true character, and they honour him as a MESSENGER of GOD, while he is working their eternal ruin. {1877 The Spirit of Prophecy, Volume 2, 90.2}
Question: Why would God give approximately 2,000 visions and prophetic dreams throughout a 70-year ministry to a person who did NOT fully obey Him?
Answer: God would not waste His time on such a rebellious person.
Reality: That person, Ellen G. White, WAS a TRUE MESSENGER of GOD and a willing / active servant for Him.
Seventh-day Adventist co-founder Ellen G. White had approximately 2,000 visions and prophetic dreams throughout her 70-year ministry. [Her biographer, Arthur L. White, estimated the number at over 2,000, a figure also stated by the White Estate.] Her first was in December 1844, and her last was in March 1915. These visions formed the basis for her personal testimonies, sermons, articles, and numerous books.
Key characteristics and context
Impact: These experiences were not only private; many were reported to have been observed by other pioneers and the public.
Physical phenomenon: In the earlier decades of her ministry, her visions were often accompanied by specific physical phenomena, such as a loss of strength followed by superhuman strength, lack of breathing during the vision, and open, unblinking eyes. James S. White, her husband and other eyewitnesses frequently observed these occurrences.
Multiple doctors examined Ellen G. White’s physical state during her visions, and their accounts state she was unconscious and did not breathe while her pulse remained steady. They found her condition to be unexplainable by natural or scientific principles at the time. Physicians tested her pulse, respiration, and eye movement, noting her eyes stayed open without blinking, but no air came from her lungs.
Physical examinations: Doctors like Dr. Lord and Dr. Fleming conducted examinations during her visions.
Cessation of breathing: Several accounts confirm that Ellen G. White did not breathe during the period she was in a vision. This was tested by doctors who listened to her chest and held a looking glass over her mouth, with the mirrors showing no condensation. This lack of breathing was also verified by holding a lighted candle to her lips without any flicker of the flame.
Regular pulse: Despite the lack of breath, her pulse continued to beat regularly.
Lack of response to stimuli: Her eyes would remain open without blinking, and she was reported to be unresponsive to external stimuli, including a doctor holding a lighted candle close to her eyes.
Superhuman strength: While in vision, she was said to exhibit superhuman strength, sometimes holding a heavy Bible for an extended period with her arm outstretched.
Accounts of Ellen G. White, founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, describe her exhibiting superhuman strength during visions, including holding a heavy Bible with an outstretched arm for extended periods. These incidents were reported by eyewitnesses as evidence of her supernatural experiences, although they are also the subject of historical discussion and debate.
The “Big Bible” story: One of the most well-known accounts, from 1845, states that while in vision, White held her family’s 18.5-pound Bible in her outstretched arm for over half an hour. At the time, she weighed only 80 pounds.
Eyewitness testimony: Several eyewitnesses reported that during these times, she would turn the pages of the Bible and quote the verses she was pointing at, all without looking at the book.
Other physical phenomena: Other similar reports include not breathing during visions, moving her arms gracefully, and a strongman being unable to bend her arm when it was extended.
Physicians’ conclusions: The doctors concluded that her condition was a supernatural phenomenon that could not be explained by natural or scientific means. One doctor reportedly said, “God only knows; let me out of this house” after the examination.
Accounts from medical professionals
M. G. Kellogg, M.D. (1890): Stated that he was present at several visions and was certain she did not breathe. He described her first breath upon coming out of a vision as “deep, long, and full”.
F. C. Castle (undated): Recounted an examination where a doctor tested her breathing and pulse, and observed her unresponsive state to stimuli like a lighted candle. Castle wrote that the doctor “was satisfied that it could not be accounted for on natural or scientific principles”.
Dr. Lord (1857): After examining Ellen G. White during a vision in Hillsdale, Michigan, he reportedly stated, “Her heart beats, but there is no breath. There is life, but no action of the lungs; I cannot account for this condition”.
A “spirit medium” physician (undated): A medical professional who claimed he could “bring her out” of a vision reportedly became “deathly pale” and later stated, “Her heart and pulse are all right, but there is not any breath in her body,” before quickly leaving.
Visions vs. dreams: A distinction is often made between the “public visions,” which had physical phenomena and occurred while she was awake, and the “night visions” or dreams she experienced later in life.
Significance: The visions are considered by Adventists to be an example of the “spirit of prophecy,” as outlined in Revelation 12:17 and Revelation 19:10.
Purpose: The content of her visions provided guidance and direction on a wide range of topics, including:
> Theology
> Prophecy and end-time events
> Church organisation and ministry
> Personal health and diet
> Counsel for individuals and leaders
Notable visions
The Great Controversy vision: A significant vision received in 1858 that provided an overview of the cosmic conflict between Christ and Satan. It laid the foundation for her book The Great Controversy.
The health reform visions: Received in 1863, these visions outlined principles for healthy living and inspired the establishment of medical missionary work within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The American Civil War vision: In January 1861, she had a vision predicting the length and brutality of the future American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865), at a time when many believed it would be brief.
Predictions that have come to pass
The Great Controversy vision: As stated above.
The health reform visions: As stated above, which includes:
Cancer Caused by Germs  Flesh was never the best food; but its use is now doubly objectionable, since disease in animals is so rapidly increasing. Those who use flesh foods little know what they are eating. Often if they could see the animals when living and know the quality of the meat they eat, they would turn from it with loathing. PEOPLE ARE CONTINUALLY EATING FLESH THAT IS FILLED WITH TUBERCULOUS AND CANCEROUS GERMS. Tuberculosis, cancer, and other fatal diseases are thus communicated. {1905 The Ministry of Healing 313.2} [Francis Peyton Rous proposed in 1910 that cancer is caused by a virus. Rous, pronounced rows, Francis Peyton, pronounced PAY tuhn (1879-1970), an American medical researcher, proved that viruses cause some types of cancer. In 1910, Rous ground up a cancerous tumor from a chicken and filtered out everything larger than a virus. The resulting liquid produced cancer when injected into other chickens. For many years, scientists scoffed at Rous’s discovery. These scientists believed cancer could not be caused by a virus because the disease is not contagious. In 1966, Rous shared the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine for his work.—”Rous, Francis Peyton,” World Book Encyclopedia.]
The tissues of the swine swarm with parasites. Of the swine God said, “It is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass.” Deuteronomy 14:8. This command was given because swine’s flesh is unfit for food. Swine are scavengers, and this is the only use they were intended to serve. Never, under any circumstances, was their flesh to be eaten by human beings. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE FLESH OF ANY LIVING CREATURE TO BE WHOLESOME WHEN FILTH IS ITS NATURAL ELEMENT AND WHEN IT FEEDS UPON EVERY DETESTABLE THING. {1905 The Ministry of Healing 313.3} [See notes under MH 313.2]
Also:
Females possess less vital force than the other sex, and are deprived very much of the bracing, invigorating air, by their in-doors life. The results of self-abuse in them is seen in various diseases, such as catarrh, dropsy, headache, loss of memory and sight, great weakness in the back and loins, affections of the spine, the head often decays inwardly. CANCEROUS HUMOR, WHICH WOULD LAY DORMANT IN THE SYSTEM THEIR LIFE-TIME, IS INFLAMED, AND COMMENCES ITS EATING, DESTRUCTIVE WORK. THE MIND IS OFTEN UTTERLY RUINED, AND INSANITY TAKES PLACE. {1864 An Appeal to Mothers 27.1}
In order to preserve health, temperance in all things is necessary. Temperance in labour, temperance in eating and drinking. Because of intemperance a great amount of misery has been brought upon the human family. THE EATING OF PORK HAS PRODUCED SCROFULA, LEPROSY AND CANCEROUS HUMORS. PORK-EATING IS STILL CAUSING THE MOST INTENSE SUFFERING TO THE HUMAN RACE. Depraved appetites crave those things which are the most injurious to health. The curse, which has rested heavily upon the earth, and has been felt by the whole race of mankind, has also been felt by the animals. The beasts have degenerated [in] size, and length of years. They have been made to suffer more than they otherwise would by the wrong habits of man. {1864 Spiritual Gifts. Volume 4A 146.2}

The open space in Orion: https://www.godswordexplained.com/?page_id=2766 extract:
DARK, HEAVY CLOUDS CAME UP, AND CLASHED AGAINST EACH OTHER. THE ATMOSPHERE PARTED AND ROLLED BACK, THEN WE COULD LOOK UP THROUGH THE OPEN SPACE IN ORION, FROM WHENCE CAME THE VOICE OF GOD. THE HOLY CITY WILL COME DOWN THROUGH THAT OPEN SPACE. I saw that the powers of earth are now being shaken, and that events come in order. War, and rumours of war, – sword, famine and pestilence, are first to shake the powers of earth, then the VOICE of GOD will shake the Sun, Moon and Stars, and this earth also. I saw that the shaking of the powers in Europe is not (as some teach) the shaking of the POWERS of HEAVEN, but it is the shaking of the angry nations. {Broadside2, January 31, 1849 paragraph 5} [Vision given on December 16, 1848]
Notice when the vision was given and when the article was released.
Now read this next article which relates to the FIRST PHOTOGRAPH taken 1880. This was 32 years LATER.
https://cosmicreflections.skythisweek.info/2020/09/30/first-photograph-of-the-orion-nebula/
On this date [September 30, 2020] 140 years ago, American physician and prominent amateur astronomer Henry Draper (1837-1882) made the first successful photograph of the Great Nebula in Orion, now usually referred to as the Orion Nebula. He used an 11-inch telescope (an Alvan Clark refractor!) and an exposure time of 50 minutes for the black and white photograph.
This PROVES that the then Ellen G. Harmon (aged18) received her VISION FROM GOD. Ellen G. White then had many other Visions from God afterwards.
The Battle Creek Sanitarium disaster
Ellen G. White received warnings about the Battle Creek Sanitarium disaster, which came to pass with a devastating fire in February 1902. Though she did not have a specific vision of the fire before it happened, she had been warning against the path the institution was taking.
Ellen G. White’s prophetic warnings
For years, Ellen G. White had voiced concerns about the institutions in Battle Creek, Michigan, becoming a massive, centralised hub for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Decentralisation: She had argued that God intended for his work and his people to be scattered widely, not concentrated in one place. In 1868, she warned against the “inclination with many of our brethren and sisters to live in Battle Creek”.
Spiritual danger: She had repeatedly warned church leaders that the large scale of the institutions and the accumulation of wealth in Battle Creek were leading to spiritual pride and a reliance on worldly methods.
Fear of fire: The problem of spiritual declension became so severe that in 1901, Ellen G. White wrote, “I have been almost afraid to open the Review, fearing to see that God has cleansed the publishing house by fire”. The Review and Herald Publishing House was another major Adventist institution in Battle Creek that was also destroyed by fire in December 1902.
Ellen G. White viewed the 1902 Battle Creek Sanitarium fire not as a random disaster, but as a divine message, a consequence of the church’s and Dr. Kellogg’s self-will and failure to follow God’s warnings. Her vision was that the fire was a result of persistent disobedience, as the institution had become too centralised in Battle Creek, and the church had been warned against this and against building up the institution. She saw the fire as a way for God to force a change, to get the people to move away from Battle Creek and spread out to new areas.
A result of disobedience: Ellen G. White stated the fire was a consequence of the people’s refusal to hear and obey God’s warnings. She had previously warned against continually investing in Battle Creek and encouraged the investment of resources in new fields.
Centralisation: The fire was seen as a manifestation of God’s displeasure with the over-centralisation of institutions and people in Battle Creek.
Focus on the lessons: Instead of trying to explain the fire or assign blame, she urged her followers to examine their own actions and thank God for the merciful preservation of life, with only one death occurring during the fire.
Forced change: Ellen G. White suggested that the fire was permitted by God to “work together for good” by forcing the church to consider the warnings they had previously ignored.
A new direction: The disaster served as a catalyst for the church to finally move its headquarters and publishing house out of Battle Creek, a move Ellen G. White had been advocating for some time.
The 1902 fire
The calamity: On February 18, 1902, a massive fire broke out in the basement of the main Battle Creek Sanitarium building. It quickly spread and destroyed the principal sanitarium buildings.
A mysterious providence: When Ellen G. White learned of the fire, she instructed believers not to try to explain it or place blame. Instead, she called it a “mysterious providence” and urged them to examine their own conduct and thank God that most patients were safely evacuated.
Divine purpose: Following the disaster, she stated that God “permits calamities to come to His people to save them from greater dangers”. She believed the fire was a consequence of the institution’s spiritual decline and served as a wake-up call to the church.
Dr. Kellogg and the aftermath: The fire also highlighted the growing tensions between Ellen White and Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, the sanitarium’s director.
Different paths: After the fire, Ellen G. White cautioned against rebuilding on the same large scale in Battle Creek, advocating for smaller institutions in different locations. Kellogg, however, proceeded with plans to rebuild the sanitarium bigger and better than before.
Departure from doctrine: This conflict, along with Kellogg’s departure into pantheistic teachings, led to his disfellowshipping from the church and deepened the chasm between him and the Adventist leadership. The rebuilt sanitarium eventually went bankrupt in the 1930s.
Vision of a printing press disaster
In December 1902, Seventh-day Adventist prophet Ellen G. White’s vision of a printing press disaster was fulfilled when the Review and Herald publishing house in Battle Creek, Michigan, was destroyed by fire.
Ellen White’s vision
Leading up to the disaster, Ellen G. White had been shown in vision that God was displeased with the Review and Herald publishing house for several reasons:
Secularisation: The publishing house had begun accepting a large amount of commercial printing work, including novels and other “objectionable literature,” which made the printing of denominational literature secondary.
Loss of spirituality: This commercial work was seen as distracting and destructive to the spirituality of the office and its employees.
Administrative wrongs: God was also displeased with workplace injustices, selfishness, and worldly policies shown by institutional leaders.
Symbolic warnings: Ellen G. White saw a “sword of fire” hanging over Battle Creek and warned that the institution was in danger and needed to be purged.
The fire at the Review and Herald
The fire occurred on the evening of December 30, 1902, and consumed the large building in Battle Creek. Although there were employees inside, no lives were lost. According to Ellen G. White, this was an act of mercy from God, giving the workers a second chance to repent.
The aftermath and meaning
For Adventists, the fire was understood as a divinely permitted judgment due to the institutional shortcomings and a rejection of the warnings Ellen G. White had given. The disaster prompted several shifts in the Seventh-day Adventist Church:
Decentralisation: Ellen G. White urged church leaders not to rebuild the publishing house in Battle Creek. The fire was seen as an opportunity to scatter the church’s influence and institutions away from the centralised hub in Battle Creek.
New direction: The publishing house was later rebuilt in a new location, and the church was redirected to operate according to what it believed were God’s principles.
Lessons learned: The fires at the Review and Herald and the Battle Creek Sanitarium earlier that year served as a wake-up call for the church to realign its priorities with its spiritual mission.
Vision of Californian earthquake disaster
On April 18, 1906, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck San Francisco, causing widespread destruction.
Ellen G. White did not have a specific vision of a California earthquake disaster in the modern sense of a detailed, precise prophecy. However, she did have multiple visions and wrote extensively about the themes of natural disasters, including earthquakes, as warnings of the end times and judgments against wicked cities. These writings were heavily informed by her experience during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
Ellen G. White’s visions included warnings that cities like Los Angeles would be destroyed by natural disasters, such as earthquakes and fires, as a result of divine judgment for their wickedness. She saw these events as signs of the end times and urged people to leave cities for rural areas, but also emphasised the need for spiritual reform and evangelism within urban centres before such calamities occurred.
Visions and warnings
General visions of disaster
In visions during the night of April 16, 1906, just two days before the Great San Francisco Earthquake, Ellen G. White saw a “most wonderful representation” of falling buildings. She described seeing “houses shaken like a reed in the wind” and great buildings collapsing as “the air was filled with the shrieks of the injured and the terrified”.
She interpreted these and other natural disasters as God’s judgments and warnings, rather than as isolated, specific predictions. She declared that cities full of “transgression, and sinful in the extreme, will be destroyed by earthquakes, by fire, by flood”.
In one letter written in 1901, she had written about a vision of costly, “fire-proof” structures being destroyed, comparing their fate to that of Sodom.
In response to the 1906 San Francisco earthquake
After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Ellen G. White interpreted the destruction as a “sample of what the whole world is becoming” due to wickedness. She advised against investing in expensive city buildings, recalling a vision concerning Los Angeles similar to one about Chicago. Ellen G. White clarified that she did not specifically predict the San Francisco disaster or claim Los Angeles would be next. The Ellen G. White Estate confirms that reports of her identifying specific cities for impending disaster are “without foundation”.
Specific warnings for LA: After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, she indicated that Los Angeles was also at risk of similar disasters unless there was a spiritual and moral awakening. She reportedly had visions of destructive scenes in both Los Angeles and Oakland following the San Francisco earthquake.
Natural disasters as wake-up calls: She viewed natural disasters as calls for repentance and a reminder that God’s authority would be displayed.
The call to action
Leave the cities: A central part of her message was a call for people to leave cities for rural areas. She consistently advised her followers to leave large, “wicked” cities to avoid both moral corruption and coming disasters.
Urban evangelism: However, she also recognised that not everyone could leave immediately and stressed the importance of working within cities to spread the gospel and help those in need before the disasters occurred.
Spiritual preparation: She emphasised the spiritual preparation of individuals and the establishment of churches and schools to support them.
Clarification
Misinformation: Ellen G. White’s followers have clarified that while she warned about the destruction of cities, she did not predict that she had specifically predicted the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, nor did she claim that Los Angeles would be the next to fall, although her writings suggest a warning to the city.
General warnings: She also made general warnings about the destruction of “magnificent” buildings in cities without specifying any particular building.
Themes related to the visions
Ellen G. White’s writings emphasise several key themes concerning natural calamities:
Divine judgment: Ellen G. White warned that cities with high levels of sin and transgression were vulnerable to God’s judgments, which would manifest as earthquakes, floods, and fires. These would increase and be as signs of the end times.
She believed these calamities were divine warnings for people to repent.

Are there contradictions in the writings of Ellen G. White?
https://www.ellenwhite.info/criticisms-contradictions.htm This page defuses some of the alleged contradictions.
Isaiah 66:05 ¶ Hear the Word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, THEY WILL ALSO PERSECUTE YOU; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
Individual messages given to people but opposed and attacked by some:
As inquiries are frequently made as to my state in vision, and after I come out, I would say that when the Lord sees fit to give a vision, I am taken into the PRESENCE of JESUS and ANGELS, and am entirely lost to earthly things. I can see no farther than the ANGEL directs me. My attention is often directed to scenes transpiring upon earth. {1860 2SG 292.1}
At times I am carried far ahead into the future and shown what is to take place. Then again I am shown things as they have occurred in the past. After I come out of vision I do not at once remember all that I have seen, and the matter is not so clear before me until I write, then the scene rises before me as was presented in vision, and I can write with freedom. Sometimes the things which I have seen are hid from me after I come out of vision, and I cannot call them to mind until I am brought before a company where that vision applies, then the things which I have seen come to my mind with force. I am just as dependent upon the Spirit of the Lord in relating or writing a vision, as in having the vision. It is impossible for me to call up things which have been shown me unless the Lord brings them before me at the time that he is pleased to have me relate or write them. {1860 2SG 292.2}
It has been a matter of great perplexity to me to know what course to pursue with MESSAGES given me for individuals. I have often written MESSAGES of reproof for different ones, and given them to these persons, and they have laid them away, and have said nothing about them. Their course has shown in many instances that they were not affected by the MESSAGES, and they have continued to have a bad influence in the church, who were ignorant of the reproof given. {1860 2SG 293.1}
My course is now clear to wrong the church no longer. If reproofs are given I dare not commit them alone to the individuals to be buried up by them, but shall read what the Lord has seen fit to give me, to those of experience in the church, and if the case demands, bring it before the whole church. The great delicacy which some have manifested lest others should learn that they have been reproved, proceeds from a lack of humility, and unwillingness to acknowledge their wrongs. The minds of many have been abused by individuals that have been reproved by vision, and their minds prejudiced, because they had no knowledge of what the Lord had revealed. I shall keep these things secret no longer. GOD’S PEOPLE must know what the Lord has been pleased to reveal, that they be not deceived and led astray by a wrong spirit. {1860 2SG 293.2}
In bearing the testimony which the Lord has given me for the last fifteen years, I have been opposed by many who became my bitter enemies, especially those whose errors and sins have been revealed to me, and have been exposed by me. Some of these have carried out their feelings of revenge, as might be expected, in attacking the humble instrument, and circulating unfavourable reports against me. {1860 2SG 294.1}
